I like to think of myself as being pretty decisive, but today has not been a very decisive day. There are so many small projects that need to be done to make the house feel even more like ‘home.’ Most of them are pretty inexpensive, but they all add up. We need to finish staining our furniture. It is mostly done, but I’d like the headboard in here, and for all the chairs to be at the table where they belong. We had to buy another 84 inch bookshelf to accommodate our reading obsession, so that will eventually need to be stained when it gets here.
I am really excited about seeing the end product once we touch up the paint in some areas and get the rugs and frames we need. We want to wait until all of the floors are down before we buy any accents, just so that we know for sure how we are keeping the furniture layout. It wouldn’t be any good to buy frames only to realize that a wall is already too visually dense.
I am having the hardest time deciding which pictures to put up on the walls–do I go with a theme, a location, a time period? We know we want to use photographs and that all the frames must be consistent throughout, but beyond that, I am at a loss. It feels odd to put pictures of ourselves up, but it would feel weirder to put tons of photos of our dogs up. What does that leave? I know we’ll end up putting up one or two from the wedding, but too many can certainly be an overload.
I’ve thought this many times, but sometimes having too many choices is more inhibiting than liberating. Such is the case when selecting photos. I guess this is the curse of taking too many?
We are sleeping in our bedroom tonight. On our bed! We’ve been on an air mattress in the living room for the last few nights while the bamboo was being put in our room. It is pretty much done in here–we just need the molding put in. I also ordered new fans for the bedroom and living room. The fan we have now in the bedroom actually does not even have a light kit, so the room has been really dark at night. I can’t wait for the new one to come in!
On a side note, does anyone know how to prevent shin splints? Ouch! The only thing I can think of to help them is Epsom salt baths, but I want to find a way to keep them from happening when I run in the first place.
These are my parents’ dogs that we are watching until Saturday. Sterling is the white one, and Sox is the other one. Look at his ears–he is the quirkiest little thing I have come across in a long time. He even gets sunburned when left out too long. Please excuse the mess. We’re renovating, remember?
This is our impromptu storage area in the kitchen. The books you see here are also the reason we had to buy another shelf. We have to figure out what to do with this space once the books are actually where the belong in the office. Any ideas?

I always have trouble deciding what sort of pictures to hang on the wall. I moved in my house in April, and my walls are still bare. haha.
I got shin splints when I was in 10th grade. They still haven’t gone away and bother me every time I run/walk.
Icing shin splints, rest and taking OTC Ibuprofen can help. Rest, like don’t run for 2 weeks or so. (Sub bike or swimming) Also, check your shoes. Athletic shoes have a short lifespan, so new ones may help. You may add an insole (ath shoe store will have them) - get as much cushioning as possible. If all else fails, orthopaedic doc can prescribe a product called lidoderm, which are lidocaine patches applied directly to the shins. Often you have to ask for them by name, they are used more for arthritic knees etc, but are lovely for shin splints.
@ann Thanks for the icing tips–I will definitely have to try that.
@shamelesslysassy Hopefully I’ll get something on the wall before long–we’ve been here since February and still have the random floral stencils from the last owner. Ew, haha!
